SUMMER IN THE PSALMS

We’ve arrived at one of my favorite times of the year…Summer. I wanted to tell you what we’re going to be looking at most every Sunday during June, July and August. We're going to study Psalms together. I’ve not done this before, but I’m really looking forward to it.

Encountering God in the Bible is one of the greatest things human beings can experience. The book of Psalms has got everything – praise, joy, despair, anguish, and amazing insights. Sounds like attributes I desire in my own life, how about you? Something I read awhile back while considering this theme for our summer said “the psalms are God-centered, instructing God’s people to be like Him, to receive His correction, and to discern error in themselves. Through the psalms, God encourages His people individually and as communities to worship Him vibrantly!” A community of vibrant worshippers. I like that. Let’s be that this summer!

Why not plan to read through the Book of Psalms this summer. I’m confident you will enjoy it, learn amazing things, and grow in your walk with God.

Here are some tips to help you as you move through this reading Psalms this summer:

Set aside and prioritize specific time dedicated to reading the Psalm of your choice for the day. Make this the first priority.

Pray before you dive in. The Bible was written by God for you to know Him and love him. Ask him to open your eyes to what he wants you to see and for him to ready your heart to see and embrace whatever is in the text you’re reading.

Read through the passage, thinking, contemplating, asking questions, and looking for answers along the way. Sometimes passages are challenging, this isn’t to keep us out, but to draw us in deeper, when a superficial reading would be unhelpful. Think and pray through the text.

Look for arguments being made by the author with connector words like “for” or “because” or “therefore”—these sometimes signal a truth about God or a promise he’s made to those who love him. The Bible is filled with arguments intended to not just increase our knowledge, but deepen our conviction about who God really is.

This Summer Series begins June 9th, but no need to wait to get started in your personal pursuit. So, what are we going to be talking about this Sunday? I can’t wait to tell you, but you’ll have to wait and find out. I promise…it will be good! On a second note…

DAY OF PRAYER FOR PRESIDENT TRUMP:

Franklin Graham has called upon people of faith to offer earnest prayers this Sunday, June 2, on behalf of President Donald Trump. I think we would all agree our President and entire Congress needs our prayers. So moving this away from politics, this is a spiritual admonition.

In the scriptures, we are commissioned to pray on behalf of our leaders. This president is facing an unusual degree of challenge in executing his duties to the American people. No doubt this is a spiritual battle with huge consequence for the nation. Let’s join this Sunday in answering Rev. Graham's call.

I can’t wait to see you! I LOVE MY CHURCH!

Loving You and Loving Him,
