It’s about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in Rwanda as I write this note to you. We are scheduled to fly home later this evening. We arrive back on Thursday evening. I can’t thank you enough for the prayers that you have sent our way. We have felt them and watched the amazing things that God has been doing during our time here.

Rwanda is a very unique place. Kigali, the Capitol, is known as the cleanest city in Africa. I would agree. Rwanda has more than a thousand hills. As soon as you begin driving, you realize that almost everything is built on a hill or in a valley. They say there actually more than 1030 hills in Rwanda. You see far more people walking the roads or riding a bicycle, more than you see vehicles. Most all of the bikes you see are used like trucks. I would have never believed that you could pack, stack or carry the amount of things that I witnessed. One of those memorable moments was a bicycle carrying 10 five gallon containers of water. Another was hauling wood, others large bunches of bananas. Every sight was intriguing.

It is nothing short of a miracle How fast the country has recovered from the 1994 genocide. 1.1 million people slaughtered in a hundred days. Tragic. However, the reconciliation and forgiveness of these people is a tremendous testimony of God’s grace and power. Most international media portray the Genocide as some simple revolt. Not so. The pictures show horrific sights. Imagine, more than 1 million people died in a space of about 3 months.

The people have come out of tremendous hardship and are moving forward in incredibly healthy ways. It has indeed been both humbling and a tremendous blessing. More on this later…

A BIT OF A CHANGE THIS LABOR DAY WEEKEND – I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that our Summer is fading in the rear view mirror. Due to the growth of Deer Flat across these recent years, we determined that we needed to move to two services instead of one “All Church” service on holiday weekends. Because of this, Labor Day Sunday will have our regular Sunday schedule – Two Services as usual, HOWEVER, there will be no Sunday School Classes and only Children’s Church both hours. This is a good problem for us to have. So, thanks for your adjustment.

SAVE THE DATE – SEPTEMBER 14-15 – This is going to be an incredible weekend. Dr. Christopher Yuan and his mother will be with us for the weekend. Dr. Yuan has taught the Bible at Moody Bible Institute for over ten years and his speaking ministry on faith and sexuality has reached five continents. He speaks at conferences, on college campuses, and in churches. He has co-authored with his mother their memoir, Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son’s Journey to God, A Broken Mother’s Search for Hope. He is also the author of Giving a Voice to the Voiceless. Christopher graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 2005, Wheaton College Graduate School in 2007 with a Master of Arts in Biblical Exegesis and received his doctorate of ministry in 2014 from Bethel Seminary. All of the details of the weekend will be available to you between now and then.

We can’t wait to see you this Lord’s Day. I am the most fortunate pastor I know that has the privilege of having such a tremendous flock like YOU!

For The Kingdom,

Pastor D
