I HATE FAILURE - BUT IT HAPPENS
Got a minute? Let’s talk about something uncomfortable. Have you ever failed? Success cannot exist without failure. At least that’s what people tell me. They say, “It’s a part of life.” I think they’re right. It’s not how you fall, but how you get back up that matters.
Once it happens, that a feeling of inadequacy or a negative thought, I’m left feeling an onslaught of shame and guilt and embarrassment. Unwanted thoughts filter through my head: What will people think? Will they think I’m a failure at work? At life? I know I shouldn’t care what others think, but I do.
Failure is hard. It’s a painful process that’s as eye opening as it is ego shattering. When we’re in the midst of failure, wading through its treacherousness, it seems that nothing can ease our pain. Nothing will make the heartbreak and torment that comes with failing.
But failure, and the resultant pain it causes, helps to shape and mold us, tailoring a platform for future success. It doesn’t feel like something that’s beneficial at all when we’re going through it, but that failure is, in fact, a prerequisite for success. While it might sound ludicrous and outrageous, no truer words have been spoken. Your failure doesn’t have to be fatal.
Are you aware that Jesus chose and used failures? This is the wonderful thing about God. He includes a variety of stories throughout His Word about people, showing us all of their humanness, warts and all. He also shows us how, with His help, they make amazing comebacks.
We’re going to take a look at a couple or failures tomorrow that rebounded to do amazing things. They got a Reboot. This is one of those perfect times to reach out and invite someone who might be struggling to climb out of a pit of their own making. Let me give you a few thoughts worth considering as I wrap up.
· Mistakes are not a problem, but not taking the opportunity to learn from them is
· Be careful how you talk to yourself, because you are listening.
· The failures of our past don’t have to dictate our future.
· You can't do it alone--and you don't have to.
