BETWEEN SUNDAYS AND BEYOND THE WALLS

Between Sundays and Beyond the Walls.
Often times at Deer Flat Church we aren’t great at telling the stories of all that goes on “between Sundays” from week to week or “beyond the walls” of the building impacting our community and across the countryside or even the globe. As a church we, more often than not, just give, partner, serve, encourage, pray and then move on to the next week or opportunity or season and do it again. And that’s how Deer Flat people generally are and have always been. They help make a difference as they go through life without a lot of attention. And I love that attitude. The only downside is many times we don’t even know enough to celebrate or praise God for His goodness in so many transformed people. So, allow me to share a little with you, please.
This week Deer Flat is sending financial and prayer support to the people of Ukraine.
Many of you are wondering how you might be able to confidently give to help the Ukrainian people during this time of war and upheaval. And we want you to know that the Missions Advisory Team has identified Christian organizations in countries surrounding Ukraine that are ministering to the people as they are displaced and disoriented and seeking refuge as to where to go or what to do. We are sending our support to Christians already doing missions over there in Poland, Germany, Moldova, and Ukraine. They have suddenly found their ministries are positioned to transport Ukrainians, providing them with shelter, food, clothing, offering physical and spiritual help in Jesus’ name. If you’d like to give please do so here and designate it to missions.
Last month a group of you from Deer Flat Church volunteered in Boise to make mashed potatoes and serve alongside Astegos.org (a Boise nonprofit) to bless the homeless community. Armed with hot food, meat, potatoes, gravy, and warm socks you stood in the cold for over an hour even when the wind and hail blew through the alleyway. And I was told the hot cocoa with whipped cream was a hit too. You looked them in the eye, you smiled, you prayed, you did great! Thank you, Deer Flat, for giving of your time and talent to show God’s generous love without expecting anything in return. (See some photos)
This month we are partnering with Hands of Hope NW to distribute some medical supplies that can be a blessing to people and their checkbooks. Check this out:
ADULT INCONTINENCE SUPPLY GIVEAWAY - Tuesday, March 8, 11 am-4 pm, Front Entry
If you are a caregiver or know a caregiver who could benefit from some adult incontinence supplies, please come to the church on Tuesday, March 8th between 11 am & 4 pm. We have been gifted a few pallets of them and will have them available at no charge. We have been told they are all sizes, some pull-ups, and some traditional closures. We will also have underpads (bed pads) and hospital gowns. For more information, please contact Jessi in the office at jessisams@deerflat.org or 208.459.3845.
Next month, April 5-9, we have the opportunity to do a mission trip in Salem, OR. We are excited to help DJ and Chuck Vincent and Church at the Park provide services that help homeless individuals and families escape the grip of homelessness through temporary micro-shelters and strategic services. We will be staying at Aldersgate camp and conference center. If you want to go, please, click on this link for more information and to register. https://www.deerflat.org/events/ scroll down to April 5. You can also contact Pastor Martin at martinflaherty@deerflat.org or 208.459.3845.
And every Thursday evening a different group of ladies from Deer Flat Church serves with the women’s and children’s shelter in Nampa. If you’d like to go and check it out one of these Thursdays, please contact Jerri McGarrah.
I love the impact of Deer Flat’s faithfulness to loving God and loving His people; that has always humbled me, and I think it makes Jesus smile.
God bless you, Pastor Martin Flaherty
