THE SUMMER SLOW DOWN MYTH
June 8, 2022 8:38 PM
There seems to be a perception by many that things at the church slow down in the summer. It is true that some classes or groups take a break for the summer, attendance drops a bit as families head out on vacation and you may not see people you know as frequently on Sundays. I am entering my 22nd summer at Deer Flat and I can tell you it is collectively the busy weeks of the year.
Between the end of May through August we will have a MS Mission, Vacation Bible School, Jr Kids Kamp, Kidz Kamp, MS Kamp, HS Camp, Mission trip to Mexico, planning for fall kick offs, first steps of Christmas planning, graduate preschoolers to elementary, 5th graders to MS, 8th graders to HS and send off our HS seniors. All of this while still doing Sunday mornings, youth events, Celebrate Recovery, funerals, weddings and more!
All of this takes a hard working and dedicated staff that I get the privilege of working with every day. The hours of planning and implementing these summer events is staggering. However, we can not do it without the army of volunteers it takes to make it all happen. Thank you to all those who step up to help whether it is your first time or you have been doing it for years.
I do have one challenge for all of you. Take your vacations, enjoy your families, enjoy the nice weather (hopefully), but don't forget the church. We want and need you here!
Here are couple of updates from what I shared earlier this year:
Have a great summer!

Here are couple of updates from what I shared earlier this year:
- Work has begun on transitioning our old oil furnaces to new propane units. This should be complete by early fall. There may be a short term inconvenience in the back parking lot as we add gas lines so watch for information regarding this when the time comes.
- Supplies have been ordered to complete the stage lighting project during mid to late summer
- The new water filtration system at Camp Cascade is complete
Have a great summer!
