THANK Y’ALL

Carol Whitbeck   -

Howdy,

I’m a city girl who has have never watched westerns, read Louis L’Amour, or enjoyed the country western 3-chord song form. That all changed last summer. When the Christmas musical “For Unto Y’All” was unearthed, the Whitbeck household couldn’t get enough of those things. All in the name of research! How in the world can you fire that many bullets and never hit anything?

Well, the musical is over, and we’ve had time to reflect on all that took place. First of all, I am so grateful to you for inviting your friends and neighbors. This production was designed just for that purpose, and you made it happen. Nearly 1600 were in attendance, although I suspect some of you may have come twice! Thank you for trusting us with your guests and making the effort to tell them about the event.

Second, I want to thank the 51 people who put themselves out there for all to see—especially when I told them what I’d like for them to do. They didn’t quit (even though I know they strongly considered it). This musical was so fun to learn, and the actors and singers were such great sports.

Third, the army of people behind the scenes did an amazing job. Dependable people are hard to come by these days, and I’m blown away by the volunteers and church staff who helped make the musical “an experience.” Thank you. The Lord has gifted you in special ways, and Deer Flat is blessed because of you.

We didn’t just have a rootin’ tootin’ good time. I watched God at work as the strong helped the weak, the rich gave to the poor. He brought together people of all backgrounds, ages, and comfort levels to tell His story. It reminded me of the chorus “Give Thanks” by Henry Smith:

Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son And now let the weak say “I am strong”
Let the poor say “I am rich because of what the Lord has done for us”
Give thanks

We are richer and stronger because of the Lord at work within you. “May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. May He strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones” (I Thessalonians 3:12-13).
